Learning a foreign language takes time, effort and dedication. The acquisition of vocabulary and grammar knowledge is relentless, but the rewards are enormous. Doors can be opened because of your language skills; employers recognise that learning a language shows resilience and tenacity, and they will respect and value you for this. While “everyone speaks English” is true to some extent, being able to communicate with someone in their native tongue is a sign of respect that is appreciated worldwide.
